Migrating applications to Windows 7 can be a time consuming and arduous process. SCCM Expert's Self Service now has built in appSurvey and associated work flow. With appSurvey, IT administrators provide end-users a URL at which they can see a list of all software on their machine, how often they use it and what it costs. End-users can select software they want re-installed on their new machines. The appSurvey is then sent to an administrator for approval. The administrator reviews the survey and triggers migration with the push of a button or allows the users to start migration.
"We no longer need 3 resources onsite installing applications. We bring machines on the network and schedule migrations remotely through Self Service. Migration can be scheduled during off-work hours to reduce downtime. There is also cost saving resulting from the return of unused software licenses. People install expensive software and then do not use it once a project is over. These licenses are returned to a common pool during the appSurvey process," said Rob Foerster.
