Pathfinder Development Helps the Successful Launch of the MetroPulse...

Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) December 13, 2010

Pathfinder Development, the software product launch company, is proud to announce their participation in the successful development and launch of MetroPulse, an analytics and mapping platform that tracks metropolitan Chicago's quality of life.

MetroPulse (http://www.metropulsechicago.org/), a joint project of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and The Chicago Community Trust, is an analytic and mapping platform that allows press outlets, government officials, and concerned citizens to access of 20,000 data sets on 200+ different indicators that track quantifiable issues throughout Chicagoland. Its interactivity and location-based visualization capabilities will allow users to more quickly assess and understand quality of life issues that impact the seven-county region.

“MetroPulse will enable local officials and other decision makers to make more-informed choices about how to strengthen our communities,” said Randy Blankenhorn, CMAP executive director. “Also, this new resource responds to one of GO TO 2040’s key recommendations, which is to increase information access so as to improve the accountability and transparency of government.”

For example, transit riders make about 2 million public transit trips each weekday, a figure that GO TO 2040 seeks to increase. The plan also calls for reductions of the 139.8 metric tons of greenhouse gasses that the region emits yearly, also one of the top-level MetroPulse indicators. Others include land use, educational attainment, civic involvement, housing, employment, and economic prosperity.

Pathfinder (http://www.pathf.com) led development of the MetroPulse platform. The platform is built in a combination of Adobe Flex and Microsoft .NET technologies, integrated with ArcGIS for geographic information. The system is highly modular, with multiple sub applications able to function on their own or integrated into the full application framework.

“MetroPulse gives us a faster, more powerful, visual way to both analyze and communicate quality-of-life information,” said Andrew Williams-Clark, CMAP senior planner and Regional Indicators Project manager. “Pathfinder has been instrumental to the successful development and launch of the MetroPulse platform. From great product development to the coordination of resources from multiple organizations, Pathfinder made it possible for us to build a product of this caliber.”

“MetroPulse is a great analytics and visualization platform that promotes transparency, openness and sharing,” said Bernhard Kappe, Pathfinder CEO. “It’s very exciting to be involved with cutting edge technology and cutting edge government at the same time.”
