The 9th ERP Vendor Shootout™ Simplifies Software Selection Through...

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) December 13, 2010

For several years now, the ERP Vendor Shootout™ has changed the way companies approach software selection by minimizing the overall time and effort involved in qualifying potential Enterprise Software vendors.

Moderated by Technology Evaluation Centers of Montreal, Canada and sponsored by IBM, the event will provide a side by side comparative view of the world’s top Enterprise Resource Planning software solutions through live, scripted product demonstrations.

Geared toward organizations in the manufacturing, distribution and/or project-oriented industries, this event is ideal for those currently budgeting for an upgrade or replacement of their current Enterprise Software solution. Through an “apples to apples” comparison from top vendors, companies can ultimately walk away with a short list of potential ERP products.

The 9th event will include live, scripted product demonstrations from Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Infor, Epicor, CINCOM and Plex Systems.

"A project of this magnitude (software selection) is a very long drawn out process. The solution you choose will have a tremendous impact on your business. To review multiple software demonstrations at one time with side by side comparisons saves time narrowing your selections moving your project forward in a shorter period of time."
Materials Manager, Plastics ManufacturerPast ERP Vendor Shootout™ Attendee

The goal of the event is to simplify ERP software selection processes, alleviating some of the painful inefficiencies by coordinating onsite software presentations and delivering them in one event. The scripted demos cover product functionality, user interfaces, and overall usability. In addition to the scripted demos, each product presenter will cover additional topics and key functionality specific to each product.

Event sponsors include IBM, IT Toolbox, Manufacturing.Net, Manufacturing Business Technology.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 13, 2010

BitRock Inc, the leading provider of cross platform deployment tools and services for software companies and enterprise IT departments, today announced the release of InstallBuilder 7. The new release of InstallBuilder is focused on ease of use and speed of development and includes enhanced functionality for packaging Java-based applications, expanded documentation, and improved compression that reduces the size of generated installers, among other improvements.

InstallBuilder is a multiplatform tool for developing software installers, native packages and crossplatform DVDs. It enables developers to quickly package their software for distribution to customers or end users within their organization. The 7.0 release makes this process faster and easier than ever. New Java-specific functionality allows developers to bundle Java Runtime Environments and create native Java launchers. A new built-in XML editor enables developers to switch seamlessly between using the GUI development environment and editing installer project files by hand. Updated, more comprehensive documentation makes InstallBuilder easier to learn and use and improved compression reduces the size of generated installers by removing duplicated files within installer package.

“Our goal with InstallBuilder is to make the process of building crossplatform software installers as painless as possible,” said Daniel Lopez Ridruejo, BitRock’s founder and Chief Technology Officer. “We’re excited to release InstallBuilder 7.0, which includes a number of new features, such as a new function for searching actions and rules, which will further simplify and speed the installer building process for developers.”

Self Service Simplifies Application Migration to Windows 7

Berwyn, IL (PRWEB) November 12, 2010

Migrating applications to Windows 7 can be a time consuming and arduous process. Taking software inventory on all machines, synchronizing the old machine with the new one, and ensuring that end-users have the applications they want after migration are all tasks that are easily automated by SCCM Expert's Self Service and Microsoft's System Center Configuration Manager 2007.

Celanese, a global integrated producer of chemicals and advanced materials, recently started migration of 7000 desktops. Rob Foerster, Global Infrastructure Team Lead, Celanese commented "We did not have a mechanism to take inventory on all our 7000 desktops and then synch the applications on the old machine to the new one. This was turning out to be a 6 hour manual process, which we have automated with SCCM Expert's Self Service."

SCCM Expert's Self Service now has built in appSurvey and associated work flow. With appSurvey, IT administrators provide end-users a URL at which they can see a list of all software on their machine, how often they use it and what it costs. End-users can select software they want re-installed on their new machines. The appSurvey is then sent to an administrator for approval. The administrator reviews the survey and triggers migration with the push of a button or allows the users to start migration.

"We no longer need 3 resources onsite installing applications. We bring machines on the network and schedule migrations remotely through Self Service. Migration can be scheduled during off-work hours to reduce downtime. There is also cost saving resulting from the return of unused software licenses. People install expensive software and then do not use it once a project is over. These licenses are returned to a common pool during the appSurvey process," said Rob Foerster.

John Juris, SCCM Expert President, remarks "With such a dramatic push to Windows 7 in progress, companies have the opportunity to review their software usage patterns. By leveraging Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager software inventory and usage data, appSurvey will intelligently provide recommendations on what and what not to migrate based on administrator policies."

"SCCM Expert has a great approach to the migration of applications during Windows 7 deployments. The automated workflow, integrated with System Center Configuration Manager, helps enterprises get an understanding of their software usage and costs, and simplifies the migration process," said JD Marymee, Director Strategic Alliances, Management and Security Division, Microsoft Corporation. "Self Service migration of applications reduces IT effort, downtime and license cost while enabling enterprises to realize the ROI of Windows 7."
